Costa Rica has subscribed a series of multilateral international and regional treaties that guarantee the enjoyment of the rights protected by intellectual property agreements, such as the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Central American Agreement for the Protection of the Industrial Property, and the Law of Invention, Drawing and Industrial and Utility Model Patents, No. 6867. Also, Costa Rica, as a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) has to abide by the provisions of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights.
